SHIP Overview
8 Week Internship Features (Dates To Be Determined)
- Interns across Operations, Design, Material Services
- Introduction to workplace skills such as punctuality, accountability, communications, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork.
- Introduction to safety standards and Personal Protective Equipment
- Safety Shoe reimbursement and Safety Glasses
- Union Membership and Union Mentors
- Introduction to the shipbuilding industry and careers that make-up worksite
- HOURS:
- Operations in Groton Shipyard: 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM with a 20-minute lunch included
- Design: Based on Department. – 8.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch break
EB Locations:
Groton, CT
Quonset Point, RI
New London, CT
Workplace Restrictions:
- All interns will be treated as employees of Electric Boat, and will be expected to follow all rules and regulations.
- Interns must remain with their mentors during all working hours
- Interns will only work First shift
- No high energy work
- No confined spaces
- No medical surveillance work (i.e. respirators, lead, radiation, etc.)
- No waterborne structures (i.e. work boats, diver’s barge, etc.)
- No high work requiring fall protection devices
- No operating heavy equipment or lifting apparatuses
- No preparing and using compositions in which dangerous acids, bases, and alkalis are used
