SHIP Overview

8 Week Internship Features (Dates To Be Determined)

  • Interns across Operations, Design, Material Services
  • Introduction to workplace skills such as punctuality, accountability, communications, critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork.
  • Introduction to safety standards and Personal Protective Equipment
    • Safety Shoe reimbursement and Safety Glasses
  • Union Membership and Union Mentors
  • Introduction to the shipbuilding industry and careers that make-up worksite
  • HOURS:
    • Operations in Groton Shipyard: 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM with a 20-minute lunch included
    • Design: Based on Department. – 8.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch break

EB Locations:

Groton, CT

Quonset Point, RI

New London, CT

Workplace Restrictions:

  • All interns will be treated as employees of Electric Boat, and will be expected to follow all rules and regulations.
  • Interns must remain with their mentors during all working hours
  • Interns will only work First shift
  • No high energy work
  • No confined spaces
  • No medical surveillance work (i.e. respirators, lead, radiation, etc.)
  • No waterborne structures (i.e. work boats, diver’s barge, etc.)
  • No high work requiring fall protection devices
  • No operating heavy equipment or lifting apparatuses
  • No preparing and using compositions in which dangerous acids, bases, and alkalis are used
