Mechanical Design and Engineering Visit ACME Wire
November 29, 2018
October was manufacturing month in Connecticut. Manufacturing Month offers activities across the state that showcase the industry. Many manufacturing companies open their doors to the public with tours and open house events. And, Connecticut’s technical high schools and community colleges hold special events to introduce their manufacturing programs to prospective students. Mary Fitzgerald President of ACME Wire in Mystic CT graciously invited our Mechanical Design & Engineering Technology students for a tour of their manufacturing facility on October 25th.
During our tour students experienced a heightened awareness of the many manufacturing processes required to produce items such as wire baskets and lacrosse face masks. Students witnessed multiple manufacturing processes in action such as robotic resistance welding, automated wire forming/bending equipment and powder coating chambers. It is amazing how spools of wires can be transformed into everyday products that we take for granted. Thanks to ACME Wire our students’ manufacturing knowledge was greatly enhanced.
